2017 CLS Alumni

Selected through a nationally competitive application process, CLS Program alumni successfully completed a multi-week intensive language and cultural immersion program, which is equivalent to approximately one academic year of university-level language coursework. In addition to weekly formal classroom instruction, CLS alumni engaged in one-on-one language practice with native speakers for conversational practice, as well as cultural activities designed to enhance language ability and understanding of the history, politics, and culture of their host site and region. CLS plays an important role in preparing U.S. students for the 21st century’s globalized workforce, increasing American competitiveness, and contributing to national security. CLS scholars also serve as citizen ambassadors, representing the diversity of the United States, dispelling stereotypes about Americans, and building lasting relationships with people in their host countries. The CLS Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government. It is supported in its implementation by American Councils for International Education.
